Your new company
Hays is working with a school in the Milton Keynes area to recruit an experienced Bursar / Finance Officer on a temporary basis until Easter 2027.This is a varied, hands-on finance position and would suit someone with previous experience working within school finance, education or a similar finance environment.

Your new role
You will support the school with the effective day-to-day running of its finance function, working closely with senior leadership and ensuring financial processes and controls are maintained.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing day-to-day school finance and accounting processes
• Processing and monitoring purchase orders and expenditure
• Supporting budget monitoring and financial planning
• Maintaining accurate financial records
• Assisting with payroll administration and resolving pay queries
• Maintaining salary information and assisting with salary forecasting
• Supporting the preparation of financial information for senior leadership
• Reviewing and maintaining appropriate financial procedures and controls
• Liaising with suppliers and supporting procurement and value-for-money activity
• Supporting funding and income-related administration
• Using finance systems and Excel to maintain accurate financial information

What you'll need to succeed
You will have previous experience working within a finance or accounting environment, with good Excel and finance systems skills. The original specification also identifies experience with FMS or an equivalent accounting system and school-sector experience.

• School Finance Officer
• Bursar
• Senior Finance Assistant
• School Business Support Officer
• Accounts Officer

You will need to be organised, confident working independently and comfortable dealing with a range of stakeholders.
