A good opportunity for someone who enjoys corporate tax, but wants more than just compliance.

Not every Corporate Tax Manager wants to work in a large, highly pressured practice. Equally, not everyone wants to spend their working week preparing returns with little opportunity to get involved in the more interesting advisory work.

If you're looking for a role that offers a bit of both, within a well-established, genuinely friendly accountancy practice, this could be worth exploring.

I'm working with a highly regarded, independent accountancy firm in Watford that is looking to strengthen its Corporate Tax team.

It's a sizeable, successful practice with an excellent local reputation, an established client base and a supportive, down-to-earth working environment.

They're looking for someone who enjoys building relationships with clients, takes pride in their technical work and would welcome the opportunity to broaden their advisory experience without losing the hands-on element of corporate tax.

The role

You'll take responsibility for a varied portfolio of predominantly owner-managed businesses, overseeing their corporate tax compliance requirements whilst working closely with experienced tax specialists on more complex advisory matters.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of corporate tax clients, ensuring compliance work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Preparing and reviewing corporation tax returns and supporting computations.
  • Building relationships with business owners and acting as a trusted point of contact.
  • Identifying opportunities for tax planning and providing practical advice to clients.
  • Supporting more complex advisory projects, including business incorporations, reconstructions, demergers, share schemes and EIS/SEIS.
  • Working alongside senior tax colleagues and supporting the development of junior team members.

Importantly, you don't need to have extensive experience across every advisory area listed above. There is an opportunity to develop your technical knowledge alongside experienced colleagues.

Who would suit this role?

You'll need to be CTA qualified, with a solid background in UK corporate tax gained within an accountancy practice.

Ideally, you'll already be operating at Manager level, although I'd be equally interested in speaking with an experienced Assistant Manager who feels ready to take that next step.

You'll be comfortable managing corporate tax compliance for owner-managed businesses, dealing directly with clients and recognising where additional tax planning advice may be beneficial.

Beyond the technical requirements, the firm is looking for someone approachable, dependable and comfortable working as part of a close-knit team.

What's on offer?
  • Competitive salary, with some potential flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
  • Hybrid working arrangements.
  • Annual Christmas bonus equivalent to one week's salary.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Employer pension contribution of 5%.
  • Private medical insurance following probation.
  • Life assurance at four times salary.
  • Group income protection.
