We are currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Author to join their growing team on a full-time, permanent basis.

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING

To be considered for this position, candidates MUST have previous experience writing and producing technical manuals within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

This is not a general administration or document control position. We are specifically looking for someone who has hands-on experience producing detailed technical documentation, operating manuals and engineering documentation for machinery, equipment or manufactured products.

Candidates must also live within a reasonable commuting distance of Pershore, Worcestershire, as this is a fully office-based position.

About the Opportunity

Are you someone who enjoys understanding how machinery works and turning complex engineering information into clear, accurate and professional technical documentation?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative engineering business specialising in bespoke machinery and equipment.

With every project offering something different, you'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of technically interesting engineering projects, rather than producing repetitive documentation.

You'll work closely with Design Engineers, Production and Project teams, gaining first-hand knowledge of the machinery throughout the manufacturing and build process.

This is a hands-on technical documentation role where your engineering understanding, attention to detail and ability to produce accurate manuals will be essential.

Key Responsibilities

As a Technical Author, your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing clear, accurate and comprehensive technical manuals, operating instructions and engineering documentation.
  • Creating complete documentation packages, including IQ/OQ, SDS, HDS, DQ and FDS documentation.
  • Working directly with engineering and manufacturing teams to gather technical information.
  • Reviewing machinery and equipment during the manufacturing process to ensure documentation accurately reflects the finished product.
  • Translating complex engineering information into easy-to-understand technical manuals.
  • Ensuring documentation meets relevant quality standards, customer specifications and industry requirements.
  • Managing multiple documentation projects while meeting agreed deadlines.
  • Reviewing and updating existing manuals and technical documents.
  • Supporting improvements to documentation processes, templates and standards.
  • Liaising with Design, Production and Project teams to ensure technical accuracy.

Essential Skills & Experience

We are specifically looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • Previous experience working as a Technical Author within a manufacturing or engineering environment – essential.
  • Proven experience writing and producing technical manuals for machinery, equipment or engineered products – essential.
  • Ideally a minimum of 3 years' experience in a technical authoring position.
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering information, technical specifications and machinery documentation.
  • Experience working closely with engineers, designers and production teams.
  • Excellent written English, grammar and technical communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to independently manage documentation projects from start to finish.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • A proactive, methodical and professional approach to work.
  • Must be able to commute to Pershore on a daily basis.

Industry Experience

We would be particularly interested in hearing from Technical Authors who have previously worked within:

  • Special Purpose Machinery Manufacturing
  • Industrial Automation & Robotics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Packaging Machinery
  • Food Processing Equipment
  • Pharmaceutical or Medical Equipment Manufacturing
  • Capital Equipment Manufacturing
  • Process Engineering
  • Aerospace or Automotive Manufacturing

Experience producing technical manuals for bespoke machinery, automation systems or complex engineered equipment would be particularly advantageous.

Previous experience producing pharmaceutical validation documentation would be beneficial, although training and support can be provided for candidates with the right technical authoring background.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary of £40,000 – £45,000, depending on experience.
  • Full-time, permanent employment.
  • Monday to Friday working hours.
  • Opportunity to work on interesting and varied bespoke engineering projects.
  • Close collaboration with experienced engineering and manufacturing professionals.
  • Opportunity to develop specialist technical knowledge and documentation expertise.
  • Join an established and successful manufacturing business.

If you're an experienced Technical Author with a proven background in writing technical manuals within manufacturing or engineering, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note: Applications will only be considered from candidates who can demonstrate relevant technical manual writing experience within the engineering or manufacturing industry and who are able to commute to Pershore daily.
