RG Consultancy is pleased to be recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to join a reputable medium sized turnover business based in Pontefract. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in accounts payable who is looking to develop their skills and gain broader experience across the finance function.

Working closely with the Finance Manager, you will primarily be responsible for accounts payable, supporting the day-to-day running of the UK accounts function and gaining exposure to additional accounting duties as your experience develops. The business is keen to invest in the successful candidate, offering training and study support towards AAT qualifications.

Key responsibilities:

• Processing and coding supplier invoices.
• Matching invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes.
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving invoice queries.
• Preparing and processing weekly payment runs.
• Processing BACS payments and ensuring suppliers are paid within agreed terms.
• Completing regular bank reconciliations.
• Maintaining accurate purchase ledger records.
• Monitoring outstanding invoices and assisting with accounts payable queries.
• Posting financial transactions and maintaining accurate accounting records.
• Assisting with sales ledger duties and allocating customer receipts where required.
• Supporting month-end procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations as your experience develops.
• Assisting the Finance Manager with general accounting duties and other ad hoc tasks.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience in accounts payable or an Accounts Assistant role.
• Good IT skills and confidence using accounting systems.
• Experience with Sage would be beneficial, alongside knowledge of other accounting packages.
• Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
