Safeguarding Officer

• Job Type: ( Full-time - 35 hours) Would consider part time for the right candidate - 28hours.
• Location: Chelmsford
• Working Pattern: Hybrid, 60% office-based
• Salary: £34,000 per annum

We are recruiting for a Safeguarding Officer to join a busy team on a temp basis, with a minimum of 3 months initially on a temporary contract. This Safeguarding Officer opportunity would suit someone with previous experience in a safeguarding environment who is confident managing sensitive concerns, assessing risk, and supporting individuals in challenging situations.

Day-to-day of the role

• Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding enquiries by phone and email
• Manage approximately 50 to 70 calls per month relating to referrals, allegations, and safeguarding concerns
• Carry out initial triage and risk assessments to determine the appropriate next steps
• Provide guidance, advice, and support to stakeholders and individuals raising concerns
• Escalate high-risk cases promptly and appropriately in line with safeguarding procedures
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records on the safeguarding system
• Support the wider team in ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a safeguarding setting such as Education, social work, police, healthcare, local authority, or a similar environment
• Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, risk assessment, and case escalation
• Confidence handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion
• Ability to speak calmly and effectively with distressed or vulnerable individuals
• Sound judgement and decision-making skills when assessing safeguarding concerns
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail
• Good administrative and IT skills, including accurate case logging and record keeping
