Assistant Accountant St Helens | Up to £30K - £40K | Fully Office Based | Bonus up to 20%

I'm currently recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join a small, close-knit finance team based in St Helens.
This is a genuinely varied role and would suit someone who enjoys having a broad remit rather than being restricted to one area of finance. Alongside responsibility for purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control, you'll support with payroll, reporting, audit preparation, purchasing and wider operational duties.

The business is looking for someone who is versatile, happy to get involved across the finance function and, importantly, looking for a long-term opportunity where they can really become part of the team.

Key responsibilities:

• Coding and processing purchase invoices
• Raising sales invoices
• Managing credit control
• Collating and arranging weekly creditor payments
• Resolving supplier discrepancies and chasing credit notes
• Supporting weekly payroll administration, including holidays and sickness
• Updating transport variance reporting
• Supporting shop-floor reporting, including sickness hours, deliveries and transport cost savings
• Booking in deliveries
• Assisting with annual audit preparation
• Arranging import and export documentation, including transport, commercial invoices, packing lists and clearance documents
• Obtaining supplier quotes and supporting purchasing activity
• Carrying out credit checks in the Management Accountant's absence
• Supporting supplier and service contract negotiations, including waste management, confidential waste, drinking water and cleaning

What we're looking for:

• Previous experience within a varied finance/accounts position
• Strong purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control experience
• Comfortable working within a smaller finance team where everyone gets involved
• Organised, versatile and confident managing a varied workload
• Someone looking for stability and a long-term opportunity

Package:

• Salary up to £40,000, depending on experience
• Bonus scheme up to 20%
• 25 days' holiday + 8 bank holidays
• Full-time, permanent position
• Fully office based in St Helens
• Monday-Thursday: 8:30am-5:00pm
• Friday: 8:30am-2:30pm
