Electrical Design Engineer – Automation & Robotics

Location: Leicester

Up to £55 000, depending on experience

Enjoy designing electrical systems that bring machinery to life?

We're recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer to join an established engineering company designing and manufacturing bespoke automation and robotic machinery.

If you enjoy the challenge of creating electrical control systems, working alongside mechanical engineers and seeing your designs become fully functioning machines, this could be a great opportunity.

What will you be working on?

You'll be involved in the electrical design and delivery of bespoke special purpose machinery used across industries including automotive, medical, plastics and packaging.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing electrical control systems for automated machinery.
  • Producing electrical schematics, control panel layouts and technical documentation using EPLAN.
  • Selecting electrical components and preparing bills of materials.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant electrical and machinery safety standards.
  • Working closely with mechanical designers, electrical technicians and controls engineers.
  • Supporting machine builds, fault-finding, testing and commissioning.
  • Assisting with improvements and modifications to existing systems.

What we're looking for

  • At least 2 years' experience in electrical or control systems engineering within an automation or machinery environment.
  • Practical experience using EPLAN for electrical design.
  • Good understanding of electrical control panels, machine wiring and safety circuits.
  • Knowledge of relevant machinery electrical and safety standards.
  • A relevant electrical/electronic engineering qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience with PLC systems such as Siemens, Omron, Rockwell or B&R would be advantageous, as would exposure to industrial robotics, but these aren't essential.

Why consider it?

You'll have the opportunity to work on varied automation projects, collaborating with engineers across multiple disciplines and seeing your designs progress from drawings to completed machinery.

The company is an established business with an Employee Ownership Trust structure and a strong pipeline of engineering projects.
