The Opportunity

Greenwell Gleeson are recruiting for a Head of Finance to join an established and successful business operating within the fresh produce and food manufacturing sector.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a senior leadership position offering the opportunity to play a key role in shaping financial strategy, improving operational performance and driving profitability across the business.

The successful candidate will lead the finance function, working closely with senior management and operational teams to deliver financial insight, robust controls and commercial support.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

Oversee monthly management accounts, statutory reporting, budgeting and forecasting.

Work closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team to support strategic and commercial decision-making.

Drive profitability through detailed cost analysis, margin reporting and operational performance reviews.

Oversee standard costing, stock valuation, production efficiencies and inventory controls.

Manage cash flow, working capital and capital expenditure.

Provide commercial insight into customer profitability, pricing and business performance.

Lead year-end reporting, external audits, tax compliance and group reporting requirements.

Develop and improve financial systems, processes, controls and management information.

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs and support business growth.

The Ideal Candidate

Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).

Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance or Finance Director.

Background in food manufacturing, fresh produce, FMCG or a similar operationally focused environment.

Strong financial control, budgeting, forecasting and commercial finance experience.

Good understanding of standard costing, stock management, production variances and margin analysis.

Proven ability to manage, motivate and develop a finance team.

Commercially minded, with the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders.

Strong Excel and ERP systems experience, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Hands-on, proactive approach with excellent communication and analytical skills.
