Major Projects | Infrastructure Upgrades | London Location:          Central London Salary:               £80,000.00 - £90,000.00 Per Annum Employment: Permanent Sector:              Major M&E Projects / Healthcare / Infrastructure / Heritage The Opportunity We are working with an established, leading M&E contractor that has secured a number of significant projects across Central London, including major infrastructure upgrades and technically complex building services installations. The business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Project Engineer to join its major projects team, initially playing a key role in the pre-construction and technical development stages of these schemes before supporting their progression through construction, commissioning and handover. The projects involve substantial upgrades to existing electrical infrastructure, new plant and energy systems, HV/LV distribution and the integration of new building services within complex, live environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Electrical Engineer who enjoys the engineering and problem-solving side of project delivery and wants to be involved in projects from their early design and development stages. The Role Working closely with the Project Director, design consultants, specialist subcontractors and wider delivery teams, you will take responsibility for the technical engineering and coordination of electrical services across major projects. A significant part of the position will be focused on pre-construction, ensuring designs are fully coordinated, technically compliant, buildable and commercially considered before works commence on site. Key responsibilities will include: Pre-Construction & Technical Engineering Lead the electrical engineering input during pre-construction, reviewing designs from concept and developed design through to construction-ready information. Work closely with external design consultants to challenge designs, identify technical issues and develop practical, buildable solutions. Review electrical specifications, drawings, schematics, equipment schedules and technical submissions. Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical services, structural elements, architectural requirements and existing infrastructure. Identify design gaps, technical risks and potential programme constraints early in the project. Support design development, value engineering, procurement strategy and technical assessments of specialist packages. Review electrical loads, distribution strategies, plant requirements, containment routes and interfaces with existing systems. Assist with the development of installation methodologies, phasing strategies and temporary services arrangements. Attend design workshops, technical meetings and pre-construction coordination reviews. Ensure designs meet relevant British Standards, statutory requirements, client specifications and project performance criteria. Project Delivery & Engineering Management Provide technical engineering support throughout the construction and commissioning phases. Coordinate with electrical subcontractors, suppliers, design teams and site management. Manage technical RFIs, design changes, material submissions and engineering documentation. Oversee technical coordination of HV/LV distribution, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems and associated electrical infrastructure where applicable. Support the planning and sequencing of complex electrical installations, particularly where existing services must remain operational. Review commissioning strategies, testing requirements, system integration and handover documentation. Ensure engineering solutions are delivered in line with project quality, safety and programme requirements. Support the Project Manager and commercial team in identifying technical variations and engineering-related commercial risks. Experience Required We are particularly interested in speaking with Senior Electrical Engineers or experienced Electrical Project Engineers who have worked for established M&E contractors on technically challenging projects. The successful individual will ideally demonstrate: Strong electrical building services engineering experience gained within an M&E contracting environment. Experience working on major commercial, healthcare, infrastructure, energy centre or technically complex refurbishment projects. A strong understanding of electrical design coordination and pre-construction processes. Experience reviewing and developing consultant designs into practical installation solutions. Good technical knowledge of LV distribution, with HV infrastructure experience being particularly advantageous. Experience coordinating major plant installations, electrical infrastructure upgrades and interfaces with existing services. Understanding of commissioning, testing, electrical safety and the challenges associated with working in live operational environments. The ability to engage confidently with consultants, clients, specialist subcontractors and senior project teams. A proactive approach to identifying technical problems and resolving them before they affect delivery. An HNC, HND or degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering would be advantageous, although strong practical engineering experience within the M&E contracting sector will be equally valued. The Ideal Candidate This position would suit an engineer who is technically capable, organised and comfortable taking ownership of complex electrical engineering packages. We are not necessarily looking for someone whose experience is predominantly site management. The emphasis is on an individual who understands electrical engineering in detail, can challenge designs, coordinate technical solutions and provide the engineering expertise required to successfully develop and deliver major projects. Experience within hospitals, critical environments, major infrastructure upgrades or energy centres would be particularly relevant. Why Consider This Opportunity? The business has secured a strong pipeline of substantial projects across London, offering the opportunity to work on technically demanding schemes involving major infrastructure improvements, energy efficiency and the modernisation of existing buildings. The successful candidate will be involved from the early pre-construction stages, giving them genuine influence over engineering decisions, design development and delivery strategies rather than simply inheriting a completed design. For an ambitious Senior Electrical Engineer looking to work on larger, more technically challenging projects with an established contractor, this represents an excellent long-term opportunity
