LEGAL CASHIER
DURHAM (OFFICE BASED)

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We're partnering with a leading law firm who are looking to recruit a Legal Cashier to join its established Finance team.

The successful Legal Cashier will be responsible for managing daily cashiering activities, processing client payments, completing bank reconciliations and ensuring all financial transactions comply with SRA Accounts Rules.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in legal cashiering, bookkeeping or finance administration who is looking to develop their career within a highly regarded and supportive law firm.

THE LEGAL CASHIER ROLE:

• Managing daily legal cashiering activities, ensuring all financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently
• Completing daily bank reconciliations across client and office accounts, investigating discrepancies and monitoring outstanding transactions
• Processing client receipts, payments and authorised transfers between client and business accounts
• Preparing and processing client billing requests, working closely with fee earners to ensure accuracy
• Ensuring all client withdrawals, payments and financial transactions comply with SRA Accounts Rules
• Reconciling Legal Aid transactions and maintaining accurate financial records
• Processing client-related supplier invoices and ensuring payments are completed within agreed timescales
• Monitoring client account balances and ensuring appropriate controls are maintained over client funds
• Liaising with fee earners, colleagues and clients to resolve financial queries and support the smooth running of the finance function
• Maintaining awareness of anti-money laundering regulations and cybercrime risks when verifying incoming and outgoing payments
• Supporting the wider Finance and Cashier team with bookkeeping, financial administration and ad hoc duties as required
• Maintaining accurate and confidential financial records whilst ensuring compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements

THE PERSON:

• Experience within a Legal Cashier, Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Bookkeeper or Finance Administrator role would be advantageous
• Knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and legal accounting procedures would be highly desirable
• Experience processing payments, reconciling bank accounts and maintaining accurate financial records
• Strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Confident using Microsoft Office and computerised accounting systems, with the ability to learn new software
• Excellent communication skills, with confidence liaising with clients and colleagues via telephone, email and face to face
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• A proactive and professional approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A strong understanding of confidentiality and the importance of handling sensitive financial information appropriately
