The Company

Our client is a specialist manufacturer of rare earth metals and alloys, supplying materials used in a range of advanced technologies, including electric vehicles, wind turbines and electronics. Based in Cheshire, the business is experiencing significant growth, investing in additional production capacity and developing its operations to support growing global demand for critical materials. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established manufacturing business at an exciting stage of its development, contributing to the reliability and ongoing improvement of its production facilities.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical & Instrument Engineer to join the business at its site in Ellesmere Port. Reporting to the Engineering Leader, you will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, safety and performance of production equipment across the site. Responsibilities will include planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding on LV electrical systems, motors, variable speed drives, furnaces, PLCs and instrumentation, alongside instrument calibration, inspection and testing to BS 7671. You will also support equipment installations, plant modifications, improvement projects and shutdowns, ensuring all work is completed in line with permit-to-work, safe isolation and hazardous area procedures. This is a permanent, full-time, days-based position.

The Person

You will be a qualified Electrical or Instrumentation Engineer, with a time-served apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or HNC in a relevant discipline, alongside an 18th Edition qualification (BS 7671). You will have hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, with a strong understanding of motors, variable speed drives, PLC fault-finding and instrumentation. Experience of permit-to-work systems, safe isolation and electrical inspection and testing is essential. CompEx certification, a City & Guilds 2391 qualification, and experience within a chemical, metals or continuous process environment would be advantageous. Above all, you will be a safety-conscious, proactive engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, minimising downtime and supporting continuous improvement within a busy manufacturing environment.
