About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Group Financial Controller for a 12-month fixed term contract to take end-to-end operational and strategic leadership of a multi-faceted finance function.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will act as the central point of accountability across Corporate Finance, Transactional Finance, Finance Data, and Finance Transformation. Leading an overall team of approximately 25-30 colleagues (including 4 direct reports), you will ensure high-quality financial reporting, robust balance sheet governance, and smooth execution of ongoing finance change and ERP automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic & Operational Leadership: Lead and mentor the Finance Leadership Team across corporate, transactional, data, and transformation verticals, driving a high-performance, continuous-improvement culture.
  • Financial Control & Governance: Oversee accurate, timely consolidated financial reporting, statutory submissions, long-range planning, tax compliance, and working capital management.
  • High-Volume Transactional Oversight: Direct the Transactional Finance function (AP, AR, Cash, Payroll, VAT, PAYE) across a complex, high-volume multi-site operational footprint (50+ sites).
  • Finance Data & Systems Transformation: Lead ongoing finance change programmes, including ERP implementations, system alignment, reporting automation, and data structure governance.
  • Treasury & Risk Management: Oversee treasury activities, cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and financial risk scenario planning.
  • Senior Stakeholder Partnering: Partner with the Senior Leadership Team and Board, delivering high-level strategic insight, financial challenge, and executive-ready reporting.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualification: Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA).
  • Leadership Experience: Proven senior finance leadership experience within complex, high-volume, multi-site, or multi-entity commercial environments.
  • Systems & Transformation Knowledge: Strong expertise in financial systems, ERP implementations, digital automation, and data governance frameworks.
  • Technical Rigour: Deep technical accounting background combined with hands-on oversight of high-volume transactional finance (AP, AR, Payroll, Tax compliance).
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional stakeholder management skills, strategic vision, and the resilience to lead teams through change and growth.
