Are you someone who enjoys helping others, building positive relationships and making a real difference to the lives of young people?

Academics are currently looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Individual Needs Assistant to support pupils within a specialist SEN school in Eastbourne.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children and young people who require additional support with their learning, communication, behaviour and personal development. You will play an important role in ensuring every pupil feels valued, encouraged and supported to reach their individual potential.

You may be supporting pupils with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC/ASD)

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • ADHD and associated behavioural needs

  • Moderate, Severe and Complex Learning Difficulties

  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

  • Sensory processing difficulties

  • Developmental delays and additional learning needs

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support and working with small groups of pupils.

  • Adapting learning activities to meet individual abilities and needs.

  • Supporting pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional development.

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive engagement.

  • Implementing individual support plans and positive behaviour strategies.

  • Helping pupils navigate daily routines and overcome barriers to learning.

  • Working closely with teachers and specialist staff to ensure consistent, tailored support.

We would love to hear from candidates who have previous experience in SEN, education or care. However, experience isn't essential if you have the right attitude and a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Backgrounds in healthcare, residential care, psychology, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or support work would be particularly relevant.
