A specialist SEMH school in Reading is seeking a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join its team immediately. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in mainstream education.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and support staff to provide tailored assistance, helping pupils build confidence, develop social skills and access learning in a structured environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support throughout the school day.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils and encourage positive engagement.
• Support emotional regulation, behaviour management and social development.
• Help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Adapt support to meet individual needs and encourage independence.

The ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant will be patient, resilient and empathetic, with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in supporting young people. Experience in education, care, mentoring or mental health support is advantageous but not essential.

This SEMH Teaching Assistant opportunity is particularly suited to graduates interested in Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology or Social Work, offering valuable experience within a specialist setting.
