The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance and line managing an Accounts Assistant, the Finance Manager will lead the day-to-day running of the finance function. You will own the monthly close, management reporting, group reporting and year end, as well as stock accounting, cash flow forecasting and the controls framework, and you will deputise for the Head of Finance on day-to-day matters.

This is a hands-on role with real breadth and genuine ownership. Alongside the core accounting cycle, you will have a clear mandate to build the team, sharpen the systems and improve reporting across Xero, Cin7 and Power BI, including automation, helping to shape how the function supports the business as it scales.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close timetable, delivering the management accounts pack by working day 6 with commentary on variances against prior year and budget
• Prepare group reporting submissions to the parent company, in line with group timetables and accounting policies
• Lead the year end process and external audit, and prepare the draft statutory accounts under FRS 101
• Line manage and develop the Accounts Assistant, reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and overseeing the ledgers, credit control and purchase processing
• Own stock accounting, including valuation, inventory system reconciliation, period-end counts and landed costing
• Prepare a rolling cash flow forecast and manage supplier payment runs, with support on foreign currency and banking
• Prepare VAT, duty and ONS returns, and review the monthly payroll
• Support the annual budget and reforecasts, and provide channel, customer and product margin analysis to the commercial and operations teams

Essential Experience

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
• Ownership of month-end close and management accounts within an SME
• Experience leading year end audits and preparing statutory accounts, plus group or parent company reporting
• Stock accounting, costing and stock control experience
• Working knowledge of VAT, payroll, duty, fixed assets and multi-currency transactions
• Experience line managing or supervising at least one person

Desirable Experience

• Reporting into a wider group, with working knowledge of IFRS
• Background in FMCG, food and drink, or a multi-channel business
• Xero and Power BI experience
• A track record of finance process improvement or automation

Package

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + company benefits
