Senior Propulsion Engineer - Microjet Turbine Development
Contract | 6 months initially | Outside IR35
Location: Wiltshire initially, relocating to northeast Swindon in mid-January
Working pattern: Typically 4 days on-site per week
Start date: ASAP, ideally early November 2026
About the Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Propulsion Engineer to support the development of a 350 N microjet turbine engine for uncrewed aerial systems (UAS/UAVs).
The project is focused on developing UK sovereign propulsion capability, addressing a gap in the domestic supply chain for compact turbine engines used in uncrewed platforms.
Working within a small, fast-paced engineering team, you will work closely with the CTO and existing engineers, contributing to the development of the engine from early-stage concept through to prototype.
This is a hands-on engineering engagement offering the opportunity to make a direct technical contribution to a developing propulsion system.
The Role
You will contribute to the design and development of a microjet turbine engine, applying your experience of gas turbines, jet propulsion and aerospace engineering to help solve complex technical challenges.
Responsibilities are expected to include:
- Supporting the engineering development of a 350 N microjet turbine engine.
- Applying practical knowledge of jet engines, gas turbines and propulsion systems to design and development activities.
- Contributing to mechanical design and CAD activities using SolidWorks.
- Supporting the progression of engineering concepts into prototype hardware.
- Applying aerospace engineering principles to the development of a compact propulsion system.
- Supporting supplier engagement and identifying relevant manufacturing or component supply-chain options where appropriate.
Essential Experience
- A relevant Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent propulsion engineering qualification/background.
- Significant practical experience in jet engines, gas turbines or closely related propulsion systems.
- Strong understanding of turbine engine design and aerospace mechanical systems.
- Experience using SolidWorks for engineering design.
- Ability to contribute effectively within a small, hands-on engineering team.
- British nationality or dual nationality, as required for the project.
Why Consider This Contract?
- Work directly with the CTO on a developing propulsion platform.
- Contribute to an engineering programme from early concept through to prototype.
- Play a role in developing sovereign UK propulsion capability.
- Join a small, technically focused team where individual contributions have a direct impact.
- Secure an initial six-month engagement, with the potential for extension or permanent employment.
