Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with an established and successful organisation within an interesting sector to recruit an experienced and hands-on Accounts Payable Clerk to join their finance team in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire on a permanent basis. This is a varied, hands-on position within a supportive and close-knit finance function, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. You will take ownership of key purchase ledger processes while working closely with suppliers and internal departments to ensure transactions are processed accurately and efficiently.

The company operates internationally, so the role will also involve foreign currency transactions. Offering remote/office hybrid working of 3 days on-site, 2 days remote, future development opportunities, product discounts and further organisational benefits.

Your new role

As the Accounts Payable Clerk, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices and employee expenses, while supporting the Financial Controller in maintaining strong financial controls, efficient purchase-to-pay processes and accurate accounting records.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Receiving, coding and processing supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
• Reconciling invoices against purchase orders and delivery notes.
• Investigating and resolving invoice discrepancies with suppliers and internal departments.
• Ensuring invoices are appropriately approved and processed in a timely manner.
• Acting as the first point of contact for supplier queries.
• Regularly reviewing the aged creditor ledger and escalating issues where required.
• Preparing supplier payment runs.
• Processing employee expense claims in line with internal policies.
• Reconciling company credit card statements and ensuring the correct receipts and approvals are obtained.
• Assisting with month-end processes, including accruals and analysis.
• Supporting internal and external audit requirements by preparing relevant documentation.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.

What you'll need to succeed:

To be successful in this position, you will have previous experience working within Accounts Payable, Purchase Ledger or a similar transactional finance role, along with a strong understanding of purchase ledger processes.

You will ideally have:

• Previous Accounts Payable / Purchase Ledger experience.
• Experience dealing with foreign currencies and inventory transactions.
• A basic understanding of VAT rules relating to Accounts Payable.
• Good Microsoft Excel skills and previous experience using finance or ERP systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to liaise with both suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• A proactive approach to resolving queries and problems independently.
• You will be highly organised, reliable and trustworthy with a positive, team-focused approach.
• Experience with Netsuite finance system and working within a small - medium-sized international business would be advantageous but not essential.

This permanent Accounts Payable Clerk role offers a salary of up to £30,000 per annum, dependent on experience based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
