Financial Controller
North Nottingham | £70,000 - £75,000 + discretionary bonus (up to 20%) + benefits | Permanent

Macildowie is working exclusively with a well-established engineering and manufacturing business in North Nottingham to appoint a Financial Controller.

This is a hands-on, broad role. You’ll run the full finance function day to day and lead a team of five. The business needs someone who can produce a full set of accounts, then step back and tell the leadership team what the numbers mean.

The role

• Own month end and produce accurate, timely monthly reporting: P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
• Lead budgeting and forecasting, with real input and buy-in from operational managers
• Deliver a smooth statutory audit and oversee tax submissions
• Manage capital expenditure, from financial appraisal through to tracking the benefits
• Drive standard costing and variance analysis, and turn it into action on the shop floor
• Strengthen financial controls, processes and KPIs under UK GAAP
• Lead, coach and develop a team of five who are capable but mostly early in their careers, from the transactional work through to management accounting and analysis

What they’re looking for

• Fully qualified CIMA or ACCA
• Experience running the whole finance function in a manufacturing business turning over roughly £50m–£100m, not just one specialist area
• Standard costing, variance analysis, capex and statutory audit experience
• Someone who leads by delegating and coaching. You’ll trust a developing team, check the output and step in when it’s needed, without doing it all yourself or managing from a distance.
• Comfortable on the shop floor and credible with engineering, operations, HR, procurement and quality leads
• Infor Syteline and Power BI are a bonus, not a requirement
