Family Solicitor (1-4 PQE)

Care Proceedings & Private Family Law | Reading

Are you looking for a role where you'll be trusted to run your own caseload, have direct client contact, and be part of a genuinely supportive team?

An established and highly regarded Reading law firm is looking to recruit a Family Solicitor to join its close-knit Family Department.

Unlike larger firms where solicitors can feel like just another number, this firm offers a collaborative environment where your contribution is recognised, your development is supported, and you'll have the opportunity to build your career with the backing of experienced colleagues.

You'll manage a varied caseload of both public law care proceedings and private family law matters, covering a mix of Legal Aid and privately funded work. The caseload is predominantly Legal Aid based, giving you the opportunity to undertake meaningful work that makes a real difference to families and children.

The Role

  • Managing your own caseload with a high degree of autonomy
  • Public law children work, including pre-proceedings and care proceedings
  • Private law children matters
  • Applications under the Family Law Act
  • A mix of Legal Aid and privately funded cases
  • Working closely with a friendly and experienced family team

About You

  • Qualified Solicitor with approximately 1-4 years' PQE
  • Experience handling family law matters
  • Comfortable managing files independently
  • Strong client care and communication skills
  • Organised and proactive approach to case management

Children Panel membership, Family Law accreditation or Resolution accreditation would be beneficial but is not essential.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • The opportunity to develop your career within a respected Family Department
  • A supportive and approachable leadership team
  • Secretarial and administrative support
  • Hybrid working available following probation
  • Town centre Reading office with excellent transport links
  • Genuine long-term career progression opportunities

This role would suit someone who enjoys having ownership of their work, wants exposure to both care and private family matters, and is looking to join a firm where culture, teamwork and professional development are genuinely valued.
