Payroll Administrator (Fixed Term Cover)

Reed is working with an established and growing accountancy and tax advisory firm supporting ambitious business owners, high net worth individuals and international groups.

They are seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator who wants to do more than process transactions. This role offers genuine client interaction and responsibility, and the chance to become a trusted part of their clients’ finance function rather than an external service provider.

Purpose of the Role

The Payroll Administrator ensures client and internal payrolls are processed accurately and on time throughout a period of cover. The role protects the standard our clients expect and offers real exposure to a firm that is investing in its payroll and HR services.

Core Responsibilities

1. Client Payroll Services

  • Processing allocated client payrolls on a weekly and monthly basis, from receipt of data through to payslips, RTI submissions and client reporting
  • Managing pension administration for allocated clients, including auto enrolment.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly CIS returns for allocated clients, within HMRC deadlines
  • Preparing and submitting BACS payment files for client net pay and HMRC liabilities
  • Handling client payroll queries, escalating complex matters to the relevant manager
  • Maintaining clear communication with clients on deadlines and outstanding information
  • Processing monthly internal payroll, with final Partner review before submission

Key Accountabilities

  • Accuracy of payroll: Ensuring all payrolls are calculated and submitted correctly, with checks completed before release.
  • Meeting deadlines: Processing every payroll on time each month and flagging risks early.
  • Compliance: Keeping up to date with HMRC and pension requirements and applying them consistently.
  • Client service: Responding to client queries promptly and professionally.
  • Continuity: Documenting work so the service runs without disruption at handover and return

Remuneration Package

  • Competitive salary, subject to experience
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements, including flexitime and working from home
  • Office closing at 2.30pm every Friday
  • Pension scheme
  • 23 days annual leave (excluding bank holidays)
  • Access to our corporate reward scheme
  • Quarterly social events
  • Free onsite parking
