Are you passionate about making a real difference to a young person's life?

We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate SEMH Mentor / Teaching Assistant to support a secondary-aged male pupil within an alternative provision setting. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives on building positive relationships and helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

The Role

You will work closely with one pupil on a 1:1 basis, providing consistent support throughout the school day. The pupil will predominantly work outside of the classroom environment, with learning activities and resources provided by teaching staff.

Your role will be to:

  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Encourage engagement with learning and education
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Motivate and inspire the pupil to achieve personal and academic goals
  • Promote independence, confidence, and self-esteem
  • Liaise effectively with teaching staff and the wider support team
  • Provide a calm, patient, and consistent approach throughout the day

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, challenging behaviour, or additional needs
  • Can work independently and confidently manage a 1:1 support role
  • Has strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Demonstrates patience, resilience, and empathy
  • Can act as a positive role model and mentor
  • Has experience within education, youth work, social care, mentoring, coaching, or similar environments
