Are you a commercially minded Financial Controller looking for a role where you can genuinely influence business performance?

We're recruiting on behalf of a successful and growing manufacturing business seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead finance, improve commercial decision-making and drive profitability across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established SME where you'll work closely with the Managing Director, take ownership of the finance function and play a key role in supporting future growth.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead all aspects of finance whilst providing meaningful commercial insight to help improve margins, efficiency and business performance.

This is not a role for someone who simply wants to report numbers. We're looking for an individual who can interrogate the data, challenge assumptions and make recommendations that positively impact the business.

You'll be supported by a Finance Administrator and work closely with operational managers across production, procurement and the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

• Production of monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts and financial reporting
• Ownership of month-end and year-end processes
• Budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
• Management of balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
• Job costing, project costing and margin analysis
• Stock and work-in-progress valuation and reconciliation
• Supporting pricing decisions and profitability improvement initiatives
• Cash flow management and credit control oversight
• VAT returns, payroll oversight and compliance activities
• Managing and developing a Finance Administrator
• Driving process improvements, reporting automation and AI-enabled efficiencies
• Supporting strategic business decisions and capital investment appraisals

What We're Looking For

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or strong qualified-by-experience background
• Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Management Accountant or Finance Manager position
• Manufacturing, engineering or project-based business experience is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of costing, stock, WIP and operational finance
• Excellent Excel skills
• Ability to translate financial data into meaningful commercial recommendations
• Hands-on approach with a willingness to work across both transactional and strategic finance
• Comfortable adopting technology and AI tools to improve reporting and efficiency
