Location: Across Staffordshire

Contract: Flexible, self-employed/freelance, term-time work

About the Role

We're looking for SEMH Tutors with QTS to support children and young people across Staffordshire who are struggling to access mainstream education.

You'll be working 1:1 with pupils who may have SEN, SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, anxiety or difficulties with emotional regulation and behaviour. The aim is to help them get back into learning, build their confidence and make progress at a pace that works for them.

This role would suit qualified teachers who enjoy working more closely with pupils and can adapt their approach to suit different needs.

You don't need previous 1:1 tutoring experience, but you must have QTS and experience supporting children or young people with SEN on a 1:1 basis, whether that's through teaching, specialist provision or another relevant setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver 1:1 tuition tailored to each pupil's needs and abilities.
  • Help pupils engage with learning and work towards their educational goals.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to suit individual learning needs.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and confidence.
  • Cover core subjects and Functional Skills where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education.
  • Provide support in the pupil's home, school or a suitable community setting.
Requirements
  • QTS is essential.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support in an educational or similar setting.
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional regulation.
  • A patient, flexible approach and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Previous 1:1 tutoring experience isn't required, so this could be a great move for a qualified teacher looking to take their experience into a more individualised setting.

Working Hours and Pay
  • £25–£30 per hour, depending on the placement.
  • Monday to Friday, during school hours.
  • Flexible, term-time opportunities.
  • Placements available across Staffordshire.
  • Self-employed/freelance work.
Who Should Apply?

We're keen to hear from QTS-qualified SEN Teachers, SEMH Teachers, Alternative Provision Teachers and mainstream teachers with relevant SEN experience.

If you're a qualified teacher with experience supporting pupils with additional needs and would like to explore flexible SEMH Tutor work across Staffordshire, we'd love to hear from you!
