Location: Southampton (office based)
Contract: Permanent, full time
Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 per annum
Reporting to: Maintenance Manager

About the Role

As Plumber, you will play a key part in keeping our Southampton student accommodation safe, warm and comfortable. You will carry out plumbing and heating repairs, planned maintenance and water safety checks, working closely with the Maintenance Manager, your colleagues and our residents. Every day is different, whether you are fixing a leak, servicing a boiler or helping a student get their shower running again, and your skill and attention to detail will help build a positive community where everyone feels at home.

Responsibilities:

Carry Out Plumbing and Heating Repairs: Diagnose and repair faults across hot and cold water systems, heating, drainage, sanitaryware and kitchens, in both reactive and planned work.

Maintain Water Safety: Complete legionella monitoring, including temperature checks, flushing regimes and thermostatic mixing valve checks, and record results accurately.

Deliver Planned Maintenance: Complete planned inspections and servicing, reporting any remedial work required to the Maintenance Manager.

Respond to Urgent Issues: Attend urgent calls such as leaks, flooding and loss of heating or hot water promptly, making situations safe and minimising disruption to students.

Ensure Health and Safety Compliance: Work safely at all times, following all relevant policies, procedures and regulations.

Deliver Excellent Customer Service: Communicate clearly and respectfully with students and colleagues, keeping them updated on progress.

Log and Record Work: Record all jobs, materials and inspections accurately on our maintenance system.

Requirements:

  • A Level 3 NVQ or equivalent plumbing qualification.
  • Gas Safe registration (desirable, particularly for boiler and heating work).
  • Proven experience as a plumber in residential, commercial or facilities maintenance settings.
  • A sound understanding of water hygiene and legionella control.
  • Knowledge of, and adherence to, health and safety legislation.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills, with a positive and approachable manner.
  • Experience within PBSA, student accommodation, property management or hospitality (desirable but not essential).
  • A valid UK driving licence.
