Job Description Sphere Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a well-established groundworks and civil engineering contractor on a large-scale residential development. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable Site Engineer to work on a major housing project, supporting the delivery of essential infrastructure and groundworks required for a large residential development. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring works are accurately set out, delivered in accordance with the latest drawings and specifications, and completed to the required quality and programme standards. The contractor has experience across a broad range of civil engineering and groundworks activities, including foundations, reinforced concrete works, earthworks, drainage, road construction and associated infrastructure. This role would suit an engineer with a strong understanding of residential groundworks who can work effectively with site management, subcontractors and the wider project team. Key Responsibilities Carrying out setting-out duties across a large residential construction project. Ensuring all engineering works are completed in accordance with construction drawings, specifications and project requirements. Setting out foundations, drainage runs, roads, kerbs, levels and associated infrastructure works. Checking line, level, position and dimensions to ensure accuracy throughout the construction process. Undertaking site surveys, measurements and as-built surveys as required. Interpreting engineering drawings and identifying any discrepancies or potential issues before works commence. Working closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, subcontractors and groundworks teams to coordinate daily activities. Monitoring the progress and quality of engineering works to ensure compliance with project specifications. Maintaining accurate site records, survey information and quality assurance documentation. Supporting inspections and ensuring completed works meet the required quality standards. Identifying and resolving technical issues, escalating design queries where necessary. Ensuring all works are undertaken in accordance with site health and safety procedures. Helping to maintain project programmes by ensuring setting-out information and engineering support are available when required. Essential Requirements Valid and in-date CSCS card. Previous experience working as a Site Engineer within construction, civil engineering or groundworks. Experience working on large residential developments or housing schemes. Strong knowledge of setting out, surveying and interpreting construction drawings. Understanding of groundworks, drainage, foundations, roads and associated infrastructure. Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to engineering duties. Ability to work independently and manage engineering responsibilities on a busy construction site. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site teams and subcontractors. A proactive approach to problem-solving, quality control and site safety. Desirable Skills and Experience Experience working for a groundworks or civil engineering contractor. Previous involvement in large-scale housing developments with multiple plots and associated infrastructure. Competent using GPS equipment, robotic total stations, laser levels and other surveying instruments. Experience undertaking as-built surveys and maintaining accurate engineering records. Knowledge of QA procedures, inspection and test plans, and construction documentation. Relevant engineering qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline. Own engineering equipment, laptop or surveying kit would be advantageous, depending on project requirements.
