Senior Mechanical / Product Design Engineer

£37,000–£42,000 | Kidderminster | Permanent

Are you a Design Engineer who enjoys getting out onto the shop floor just as much as working in CAD?

Do you enjoy solving real manufacturing challenges, improving existing designs and seeing your engineering decisions make an immediate difference?

We're working with an established, family-owned manufacturing company in Kidderminster looking for an experienced Design Engineer to play a key role across product design, development and production.

This isn't a position where you'll spend every day producing drawings in isolation.

You'll work closely with manufacturing teams, estimators and production personnel, helping turn ideas into practical, high-quality products while continuously improving how they're designed and manufactured.

Why consider this opportunity?

Your designs will actually get made. You'll be involved throughout the manufacturing process, giving you direct visibility of the products you're developing.

Variety in your working week. From SolidWorks modelling and manufacturing drawings to troubleshooting production challenges and exploring new product ideas, there will be plenty to keep you engaged.

Put your manufacturing knowledge to use. Your understanding of fabrication, materials and production methods will be just as valuable as your CAD experience.

Help shape better ways of working. You'll have the chance to improve existing designs, streamline CAD/CAM processes and contribute to production efficiency.

Be part of a business that values practical engineering. You'll work within an established manufacturing environment where collaboration between design and production is central to delivering successful projects.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing products using SolidWorks and other CAD/CAM systems.
  • Creating detailed engineering drawings and production-ready documentation.
  • Developing manufacturing programmes for production machinery.
  • Designing components and assemblies with sheet metal fabrication processes in mind.
  • Working alongside production teams, surveyors and estimators.
  • Reviewing and improving existing designs to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Supporting new product development, R&D and engineering projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations.

About you

You'll ideally have experience in:

  • Mechanical design, product design or manufacturing engineering.
  • SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
  • Sheet metal design, fabrication or related manufacturing processes.
  • Creating detailed 2D drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Design for manufacture and production optimisation.
  • Working collaboratively with shop-floor and engineering teams.

CAD/CAM programming experience and an understanding of BS EN standards or CE marking would be advantageous.

Ready for something more hands-on?
