Buyer
Location: Leeds, on site | Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 | Type: Permanent, full time

About the role
Elevation Recruitment Group is working on a confidential basis with an engineering manufacturer in Leeds. They need an organised, commercially minded Buyer to keep production moving. You’ll make sure materials, tooling and outside processes arrive on time, to specification and at the right cost, so no machine is left waiting. You’ll report to the Operations Manager and work day to day with Planning, Quality, Engineering, Goods In and Finance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Buying raw materials against MRP demand and the production schedule
  • Specifying every order in full and requiring mill certificates, keeping traceability from material batch through to the batch record
  • Setting stock levels and reorder points, tracking prices, surcharges and lead times, and flagging risks to Planning early
  • Negotiating pricing and call-off agreements with mills and stockholders
  • Sourcing cutting tools, consumables, spares and calibration services at the best total cost
  • Managing parts sent out for outside processing, from raising the order to booking parts back in with certificates
  • Keeping a live subcontract tracker, chasing late jobs and finding second sources for single-source processes
  • Buying only from approved suppliers within an ISO 13485 quality system, and following supplier corrective actions through to closure with Quality

What we’re looking for

  • Purchasing experience in precision engineering or machining (medical, aerospace or another regulated sector is a plus)
  • Working knowledge of metals and plastics, including grades, standards and mill certificates
  • An understanding of subcontract processes such as heat treatment, passivation and coatings
  • Confidence with an ERP/MRP system and Excel
  • Strong negotiation skills and persistence in chasing suppliers
  • Clear communication with Planning, Quality and the shop floor
  • A CIPS qualification is desirable but not essential

What’s on offer

  • £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience
  • A varied role with real ownership of materials, buying and subcontract control
