Finance Director

Location: Coventry

Salary: 90,000 – 110,000

We are working with an established business based in Coventry who are looking to recruit an experienced Finance Director to join their senior leadership team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business that is currently going through a period of turnaround and transformation. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving financial performance, strengthening financial controls and supporting the long-term growth and stability of the business.

We are looking for a commercially minded, hands-on Finance Director who has previous experience of working within a turnaround environment and is confident driving change, challenging existing processes and working closely with senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Taking overall responsibility for the financial management and performance of the business.
• Working closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team to support the business turnaround strategy.
• Identifying opportunities to improve profitability, cash flow and working capital.
• Preparing and managing budgets, forecasts and financial reporting.
• Reviewing existing financial systems, processes and controls and implementing improvements where required.
• Providing commercial and financial insight to support strategic decision-making.
• Managing cash flow and ensuring effective financial planning.
• Overseeing contract accounting, work in progress (WIP), valuations and retentions.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations, including CIS and VAT requirements.
• Working closely with operational teams to improve cost control and contract profitability.
• Leading and developing the finance team.
• Producing accurate and timely management information for the board.

Skills and Experience Required:

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Previous experience working at Finance Director or senior finance management level.
• Proven experience of working within a business turnaround, restructuring or transformation environment.
• Experience within construction, civil engineering, utilities, contracting or a similar industry would be highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of WIP, contract accounting, valuations and retentions.
• Knowledge of CIS, domestic reverse charge VAT and self-billing.
• Excellent commercial awareness and the ability to identify areas for financial improvement.
• Experience implementing new financial systems, processes and controls.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to work at both strategic and operational levels.
