Senior Health and Safety Advisor
Worthing / Brighton, East Sussex | £50,000–£55,000 + Benefits
Major Water Infrastructure Contract | Multi-Site Role
We're recruiting an experienced Senior Health and Safety Advisor to support a major water infrastructure contract across Brighton and the surrounding region.
This is an opportunity to join an established construction and infrastructure business delivering essential works across the water sector. You'll be working closely with operational teams, site management and subcontractors, helping to maintain high safety standards across a range of live projects.
The role is very much hands-on. You'll spend a good proportion of your time out on site, understanding the work being carried out, identifying risks and helping teams find practical solutions. We're looking for someone who can build relationships, influence people and challenge poor practices when necessary, rather than simply pointing out what's wrong.
What you'll be doing
You'll take responsibility for providing day-to-day safety support across multiple sites, working with operational managers and project teams to improve performance and maintain compliance.
Your responsibilities will include:
*
Carrying out site inspections, audits and safety observations across construction and operational activities.
*
Providing practical advice to site managers, supervisors and subcontractors.
*
Leading and supporting incident investigations, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
*
Reviewing RAMS, safe systems of work and other compliance documentation.
*
Helping operational teams identify risks and implement suitable control measures.
*
Supporting behavioural safety initiatives and encouraging a positive reporting culture.
*
Identifying opportunities to improve existing safety procedures and working practices.
*
Providing safety input into operational planning, tenders and project activities.
*
Supporting environmental compliance and occupational wellbeing initiatives.
What we're looking for
You'll need to have a strong background in construction, civil engineering, utilities or water infrastructure, with at least five years' experience in a similar safety advisory position.
We're particularly interested in speaking with people who have worked directly with operational teams and understand the challenges of managing safety across busy construction sites.
Essential requirements:
*
NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, or equivalent.
*
At least five years' relevant safety advisory experience.
*
Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction safety requirements.
*
Experience conducting site audits, inspections and incident investigations.
*
Confidence dealing with operational management, supervisors and subcontractors.
*
Good reporting, documentation and IT skills.
*
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
Progression towards Graduate IOSH or an equivalent professional standard would be advantageous.
Just as importantly, you'll need to be approachable, organised and commercially aware. The ability to communicate effectively with site teams and provide sensible, workable safety advice will be a big part of your success.
Salary and benefits
The salary is £45,000–£55,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
The wider benefits package includes:
*
Company pension scheme.
*
Healthcare benefits.
*
Annual leave starting at 24–26 days.
*
Employee assistance and wellbeing support.
*
Cycle to work scheme.
*
Retail, leisure and shopping discounts.
*
Opportunities for further professional development
