The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented experienced individual from practice to join the team to undertake Assistant Accountant and Bookkeeping responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be involved in bookkeeping, year-end accounts preparation, VAT returns, and general client accounting support, working closely with a range of owner-managed businesses and SMEs.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients.
• Preparing VAT returns
• Assisting with and preparing year-end accounts up to trial balance and final accounts stage.
• Liaising directly with clients to resolve accounting queries.
• Processing bank reconciliations, journals, accruals, and prepayments.
• Supporting senior team members with accounts preparation and client work.
• Ensuring work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
• Working with cloud accounting software to support clients and maintain financial records.

This is an ideal post for an experienced practice-based Bookkeeper or Accounts Assistant who is looking to be a key team member – not just another number – and truly add value to clients in an established and forward-thinking accountancy firm.

About You: To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice environment - essential
• AAT Level 3 or Level 4 qualification (or currently studying towards it).
• Experience preparing a full set of accounts for a variety of clients.
• Solid bookkeeping skills and a strong understanding of accounting principles.
• Experience working with clients across a range of sectors and industries.
• Proficiency with Xero, Iris and QuickBooks.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• The ability to manage multiple client deadlines effectively.
