SF Partners are recruiting a Financial Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function within an established business.
This is a broad role offering responsibility for financial reporting, operational finance and team management, alongside regular involvement in commercial and operational decisions. You will combine strong financial control with a practical approach, ensuring the numbers are accurate, the team is supported and managers have the information they need.
Working closely with the senior finance lead, you will also help improve reporting, strengthen processes and make better use of finance systems.
The role
Manage and develop the finance team, setting clear priorities and building capability across accounting, payroll and transactional finance.
Oversee cash management, banking and working capital, maintaining clear forecasts and driving effective credit control.
Deliver monthly management accounts with useful commentary on performance, variances and areas requiring action.
Work with operational managers to understand costs, review profitability and improve financial performance.
Coordinate budgets and regular forecasts, challenging assumptions and identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
Maintain strong balance sheet control through timely reconciliations, appropriate accounting treatment and thorough review.
Review project expenditure, revenue recognition and margins to ensure reporting accurately reflects performance.
Take responsibility for year-end preparation, external audit coordination and statutory reporting.
Ensure tax, VAT, payroll and other regulatory obligations are completed accurately and on time.
Maintain effective financial policies, approval procedures and controls in line with UK accounting standards and wider reporting requirements.
Provide financial input into investment decisions, capital expenditure proposals and business cases.
Improve finance workflows, reporting tools and ERP processes, identifying opportunities to reduce manual work and increase accuracy.
About you
You will bring strong financial accounting and management reporting experience, alongside the confidence to lead a team and work closely with colleagues across the business.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of the detail while understanding how finance supports the wider operation. Experience of budgeting, cash forecasting, audit and financial controls will be important, together with a track record of improving processes.
Strong Excel and ERP systems skills are expected. Experience of project accounting, revenue recognition or margin analysis would be valuable.
This opportunity would suit an established Financial Controller or an experienced Finance Manager ready to take on broader responsibility.
