Are you an Assistant Accountant with practical month end and payroll experience who is looking for a role offering genuine progression?

BTG Recruitment is working with an established and growing multi site business to recruit an Assistant Accountant for its Nottingham head office.

This is a broad accounting position combining payroll support, management accounting and transactional finance. It is not a purely purchase ledger or sales ledger role.

Ideally, you will have

• Practical experience supporting or processing payroll
• Experience preparing journals, accruals and prepayments
• Bank and balance sheet reconciliation experience
• A good understanding of double entry bookkeeping, including debits and credits
• General ledger and cashbook experience
• Exposure to month end accounting processes
• AAT Level 3, Level 4 or an equivalent level of practical accounting experience
• Purchase ledger and sales ledger experience as part of a broader finance role
• Good Microsoft Excel skills
• The ambition to develop into a broader management accounting position

Applicants whose experience is limited solely to processing purchase ledger or sales ledger transactions are unlikely to have the accounting exposure required for this position.

The role

Working closely with the Management Accountant and Financial Controller, you will support the finance team across payroll, month end accounting and transactional finance.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing journals, accruals and intercompany entries
• Completing bank and balance sheet reconciliations
• Processing general ledger and cashbook entries
• Supporting stock related balance sheet accounts
• Managing expenses and company credit card transactions
• Assisting with supplier statement reconciliations and aged payable reviews
• Supporting the payroll function and providing holiday cover
• Providing cover across purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control when required
• Supporting finance projects and process improvements
• Helping the business make better use of Microsoft Business Central

Experience of Microsoft Business Central, Dynamics GP or working within an automotive, transport, logistics, distribution, engineering or other high volume environment would be useful.
