Interim Financial Accountant

Location: Oxfordshire (3 days per week onsite)

Contract: Interim, 3-4 Months

Start Date: Immediate / Short Notice Preferred

We are working exclusively with an innovative, mission-driven organisation operating at the forefront of scientific research and technology. With a growing international presence and ambitious expansion plans, they are seeking an experienced Interim Group Financial Accountant to provide hands-on support during a critical period of growth and transition.

This assignment requires a hands-on finance professional who can quickly embed into the team, take ownership of key reporting processes and help maintain financial control across a complex, multi-entity environment. You'll be joining at a busy time, supporting month-end close, programme reporting and global finance operations while the business scales.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End

• Lead month-end close activities, including revenue recognition, payroll allocations, depreciation, amortisation, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support the preparation of consolidated management accounts and group reporting packs.
• Reconcile intercompany balances across multiple entities.
• Review subsidiary financial information and ensure reporting accuracy across the group.

Project & Programme Finance

• Produce monthly financial reports for funded projects and programmes.
• Monitor actual performance against budgets, investigate variances, and provide meaningful commentary.
• Partner with operational stakeholders to review financial performance, challenge assumptions, and update forecasts.
• Support the preparation of financial reports required by grant providers, funding bodies, and commercial partners.

Global Operations Support

• Maintain accurate project-based financial reporting across international operations.
• Track costs, forecasts, cash flow, contract milestones, invoicing, and funding receipts.
• Develop and document robust financial processes and controls to support future finance team expansion.
• Collaborate with colleagues across multiple time zones and international locations.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support year-end and audit preparations.
• Assist with cash flow reporting.
• Contribute to fixed asset and inventory accounting activities.
• Provide ad hoc support across the finance function as required.

About You

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
• Proven experience within Financial Accounting, Finance Management, or a similar hands-on finance role.
• Strong track record of delivering within interim assignments and quickly adding value.
• Experienced in managing month-end processes and producing management accounts within a multi-entity organisation.
• Confident business partner with the ability to challenge stakeholders and influence decision-making.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365, would be advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across international teams.
