An international law firm is looking for an AP and Payroll Manager for its London office. The office is home to around 90 people working on complex international legal matters, and finance here is a small, close team where each person's work is visible and valued. This role brings together two things the office relies on: suppliers paid accurately and on time, and a payroll that is right every month. Payroll processing is outsourced, so your focus is the preparation, checks and journals that make it run smoothly. It suits someone who enjoys owning a process, putting good controls in place and being the person everyone trusts to get it right.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will own accounts payable and the in-house side of payroll for the London office.

• Process supplier invoices and run the weekly payment runs
• Reconcile supplier statements and keep the purchase ledger clean and up to date
• Prepare the monthly payroll submission for the outsourced provider, including starters, leavers and changes
• Check the payroll output before approval, and resolve queries with the provider and employees
• Post the payroll journals and reconcile the payroll and pension control accounts
• Manage the monthly pension submissions to the provider
• Track changes to payroll and pension legislation and prepare for them in good time
• Provide cover for billing and other transactional tasks during holidays

What we're looking for

• Solid experience across accounts payable and payroll, ideally in a professional services firm
• Experience preparing payroll for an outsourced provider and posting payroll journals
• A working knowledge of auto-enrolment pensions and UK payroll compliance
• Strong reconciliation skills and close attention to detail
• An organised approach, with the confidence to put sensible controls around a process
• Good Excel skills; experience of a legal practice management system is a plus
