About the Role

We are recruiting a Contractor Explosives Safety Monitor - Supervisor on behalf of a confidential client operating within a highly regulated, safety-critical manufacturing environment.

This is a hands-on, site-based contract role for an initial period of 12 months, paying £350 per day.

You will monitor the activities of contractors and employees to ensure that agreed explosives safety controls are maintained throughout authorised work. Acting as a key point of contact between personnel and site operations, you will help ensure work is carried out safely and in accordance with site procedures, permit conditions and emergency arrangements.

The successful candidate will be confident challenging unsafe practices, recognising changing conditions and stopping work when necessary to protect personnel and the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor contractor and employee activities to ensure compliance with agreed explosives safety controls, permits, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Check that authorised work remains within approved boundaries, personnel limits, time restrictions and operational conditions.
  • Identify unsafe practices, changing conditions or breaches of safety controls and intervene promptly.
  • Stop work and escalate concerns to the appropriate site personnel when safety requirements are not being met.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, employees, site operations, permit issuers and explosives safety specialists.
  • Brief personnel on monitoring arrangements, reporting requirements, alarms and emergency procedures.
  • Support emergency arrangements, including raising alarms, assisting with withdrawal or evacuation, and reporting concerns.
  • Maintain accurate monitoring records, document interventions and provide clear handovers.
  • Support completion checks and report outstanding issues before work is handed back.

About You

You will be safety-focused, observant and confident working in a high-hazard environment. You must be able to recognise when work is moving outside its authorised conditions and have the confidence to challenge others when required.

Ideally, you will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Explosives safety, ammunition, munitions or explosives operations.
  • High-hazard manufacturing or other safety-critical industrial environments.
  • Contractor supervision, safety monitoring or permit-to-work systems.
  • Maintenance, engineering or operational activities involving strict safety controls.
  • Interpreting risk assessments, method statements and work permits.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to act decisively under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • A proactive approach to safety, with the confidence to stop work when necessary.
  • A willingness to follow defined procedures and recognise the limits of your authority.

Training and Competence

Successful candidates will be required to complete the relevant site induction, task-specific Explosives Safety Monitor training and a recorded competence assessment before appointment.

Relevant qualifications in explosives safety, operations or permit-to-work systems would be advantageous. Demonstrated competence for the assigned work is essential.
