This isn’t a Business Development Manager role where you’ll simply inherit a plan and follow it, or just be sales, sales, sales. We want you to help shape what comes next by growing what we have and where we want to excel.

You’ll lead our growth agenda, spotting opportunities, challenging the status quo and turning ambitious ideas into sustainable services that make a real difference to our customers and communities. One day you could be developing the financial model for a new service from home; the next, you might be in the office with our Executive Leadership Team, visiting a site or meeting potential partners. Wherever you’re working, you’ll be at the heart of our future growth.

From acquisitions and new markets to funding, tenders, partnerships and new services, you’ll build a pipeline of opportunities worth up to £10m, combining strong commercial thinking with our social purpose.

We’re looking for someone who can create something from nothing: spotting potential, building relationships, developing compelling business cases and bringing people together to turn great ideas into commercially viable opportunities.

If you’re commercially minded, socially driven and excited by the challenge of building something new, we’d love to hear from you.

PLEASE NOTE: ALTHOUGH WE ARE FLEXIBLE WITH WORKING ARRANGEMENTS, THIS ROLE MUST BE VISIBLE AT OUR SITES AROUND SOUTH YORKSHIRE AND LINCOLNSHIRE. PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU CAN COMMUTE TO THESE SITES ON A FAIRLY REGULAR BASIS.

As a Business Development Manager, a typical day might include:

  • Generating growth opportunities for the group in line with our social purpose, including acquisition, market diversification and complementary service growth of up to £10m

  • Keeping an eye on the future, maximising our assets and building an income pipeline to deliver our plans across all delivery sites

  • Developing new services or products that meet the changing needs of our customers, communities, commissioners and policy makers, and seeking out contracting and funding opportunities to deliver them

  • Turning stakeholder relationships into strategic partnerships, securing external funding from new income streams including corporate, community, grants, trusts and foundations, and public sector tenders

  • Working directly with the Executive Leadership Team to deliver against our charitable purpose and growth strategy

  • Working with the Bid Manager to ensure a pipeline of viable, fundable and sustainable models, leading on financial viability through business plans, financial modelling and cash flow forecasting

  • Providing oversight of the bidding team, ensuring high-quality bids and viable cost models, and stepping in to support bids when required

  • Building a robust prospect pipeline to meet financial and strategic targets, from partnerships, acquisitions, businesses, government-led agencies and trusts

  • Generating new customers for the group, leading innovative ways to engage them and improve their lives

  • Working with teams across the group to gather insight and needs analysis, developing new ideas and income streams

  • Leading innovation and change to maximise income and support more customers

  • Leading team performance against KPIs and budgets, with regular reporting to senior managers

  • Developing new models from scratch, including complex, long-term business planning across multiple income streams to ensure full cost recovery and commercial return, and seeking Committee and Group Board approval where required

  • Applying wider business modelling approaches, including profit and loss, cross subsidy, and contractual and commercial income generation

Some of the experience/skills we need to consider you:

  • Full understanding of the funding and grant submission process, with a proven track record of securing income this way

  • Securing multiyear funding that ensures full cost recovery and sustainable delivery

  • Generating diversified income through new markets and establishing new models

  • Experience of acquisitions and mergers to support business growth

  • Turning stakeholder relationships into productive, impactful and sustainably funded partnerships

  • Managing budgets in the region of £1m, with full understanding of budget planning and management

  • Bringing together complex business plans, profit and loss forecasts and financial profiles

  • Cashflow forecasting, business plans and budget preparation

  • Presenting to Board and Executive leadership teams

What will make you stand out from the crowd:

  • Understanding of the housing or education sector

  • Financial planning or fundraising qualification

Being part of the Acis team, you’ll get:

  • 25 days annual leave (rising by one day per year to a maximum of 30) plus bank holidays

  • Pension contributions up to 10%, with death in service benefit

  • Professional training funded by us, plus professional membership subscription

  • One day’s paid leave a year for volunteering, in addition to annual leave

  • Paycare health and benefits scheme, supporting counselling, eye tests, vaccinations and more

  • Acis Perkz discount scheme with savings on coffee, weekly shop, days out and more

  • Employee recognition scheme with awards and gift vouchers, plus long service awards

  • Cycle to work scheme

  • Confidential Employee Assistance Programme
