This role would suit a lawyer who has previously worked within a project-facing legal position, either in-house or with significant secondment/project exposure, and who enjoys delivering pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice in a fast-paced environment.

While you will have access to support from a wider remote legal team, you will be expected to work autonomously and confidently manage legal matters arising on-site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of construction documentation, including:
    • Subcontracts
    • Supply chain agreements
    • Project-related commercial contracts
  • Advising project and commercial teams on contract administration and risk management.
  • Supporting stakeholders on project delivery issues as they arise.
  • Providing legal guidance on:
    • Extensions of time, Compensation events, Contractual notices, Variations and change management, Claims and dispute avoidance
  • Assisting with the management of contentious issues and supporting external counsel where required.
  • Working closely with commercial and operational teams to resolve legal challenges efficiently and pragmatically.

About You

You will be a qualified lawyer with strong construction and engineering experience gained either in-house or in private practice with substantial project exposure.

Candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • 5-10 years' PQE (applications from lawyers with 3+ years' PQE and highly relevant experience are welcomed).
  • Previous experience in a project lawyer, construction lawyer or legal counsel role supporting live construction projects.
  • Strong experience reviewing and negotiating subcontracts and professional appointments.
  • Practical claims experience, including extensions of time, compensation events and project-related disputes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence operational teams.
  • The confidence to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with a remote legal team.
  • Essential knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts.
  • French language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.

What's on Offer

  • The opportunity to work on a significant and high-profile construction project.
  • A varied and commercially focused in-house legal role.
  • Support from an experienced international legal team.
  • Accommodation provided as part of the package.
