The Role

An established property development business is looking to recruit a Town Planner or Senior Town Planner to join its team in Cheltenham. This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional to work across a varied portfolio of development projects, contributing to the promotion and delivery of high-quality schemes.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing planning applications, coordinating with external consultants and local authorities, and supporting the progression of development opportunities.

This position would suit an ambitious Town Planner looking to take the next step in their career or an experienced Senior Town Planner seeking a new challenge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate planning applications for residential and mixed-use developments.
  • Prepare, submit and monitor planning applications and supporting documentation.
  • Liaise with local planning authorities, consultants, landowners and other stakeholders.
  • Provide planning advice to support land acquisition, development appraisals and project delivery.
  • Monitor changes in planning policy, legislation and local development frameworks.
  • Assess planning constraints and identify opportunities to maximise the potential of development sites.
  • Coordinate technical reports and input from external consultants.
  • Support the delivery of planning strategies and the resolution of planning-related issues.
  • Attend planning meetings and consultations with relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a town planning role, either within the private sector or a local authority.
  • A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of the UK planning system, planning policy and development management processes.
  • Experience preparing or managing planning applications.
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a genuine interest in property development.

For the Senior Town Planner level, previous experience managing complex planning applications, coordinating consultants and advising on development strategy would be advantageous. Membership of the RTPI, or progress towards chartership, would also be beneficial.
