Job overview

The Breast Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) will provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients presenting with breast conditions across the Breast Service. Working autonomously within an agreed scope of practice, the ACP will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care, supporting timely access to assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

The post holder will play a key role in the management of patients referred via the Two Week Wait (2WW) breast pathway, breast screening assessment services, breast abscess pathway, and the ongoing management of benign and follow-up patients. They will work collaboratively with consultants, radiologists, breast care nurses, administrative teams and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure efficient patient pathways and optimal clinical outcomes.

The ACP will contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives and will support the four pillars of advanced practice: Clinical Practice, Leadership and Management, Education, and Research.

This post is a link-graded Band 7 Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) progressing to Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner. The preferred approach is to appoint candidates at Band 7 whilst they undertake the required education and training, with progression to Band 8a upon successful completion of all advancing practice requirements.

  • Management of benign and follow-up breast patients within agreed competencies and protocols.
  • Working closely with consultants, radiology, breast care nurses and the wider MDT to streamline patient pathways and improve access.
  • Supporting service development, pathway improvement, audit and education within the Breast Service.
