Home-based Telephone Market Research Interviewer

Location: Home-based within the UK

Contract: Casual, variable-hours contract

Hours: Flexible daytime, evening and Saturday shifts

Experience: No previous experience required; paid training is provided

Who are we?

Field Locker is a UK market research company. We conduct telephone interviews with businesses and members of the public. You might interview customers about their experience of a service, ask members of the public about transport or local services, or gather opinions on social and political issues.

This is market research, not telesales. You will not be selling products!

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting telephone interviews using an on-screen questionnaire
  • Reading questions accurately and recording answers correctly
  • Remaining professional, polite and engaging
  • Asking follow-up questions where instructed
  • Following project, quality and data-protection requirements

When can I work?

You can provide your availability each week and may choose which days and patterns you want to work (though you have to pick which team you will be in). The teams and shift patterns are:

Consumer team

  • 1pm–9pm
  • 5pm–9pm
  • Saturdays, 10am–2pm

Daytime team

  • 9am–5pm

Your availability can vary from week to week. Shifts are allocated according to your availability and our project requirements, so work is not guaranteed every week.

What does it take?

You do not need previous market research or call-centre experience. We are looking for people who can:

  • Speak clearly and professionally on the telephone
  • Build rapport with people they have not spoken to before
  • Read scripted questions accurately
  • Listen carefully and record answers correctly
  • Type confidently and use a computer
  • Work independently and follow instructions
  • Handle information confidentially

Paid training, project briefings and ongoing coaching are provided.

What will you get paid?

The following basic hourly rates apply from 1 April 2026. As this is an irregular-hours role, holiday pay is paid separately at 12.07%

  • Age 21 and over: £12.71 basic pay plus £1.53 holiday pay = £14.24
  • Age 18–20: £10.85 basic pay plus £1.31 holiday pay = £12.16
  • Age 16–17: £8.00 basic pay plus £0.97 holiday pay = £8.97

You may also be eligible for an additional bonus based on interview quality and performance. Full details and eligibility rules will be provided before you accept the role.

What else do I need to know BEFORE applying?

You will need:

  • A Windows laptop or desktop computer with a screen of at least 13 inches and a physical keyboard. MacBooks, Chromebooks and tablets are NOT compatible with our interviewing software.
  • A built-in or separate webcam. Cameras are required during training, project briefings and coaching meetings
  • A headset with a built-in microphone that is compatible with your computer.
  • A stable broadband connection with a minimum download speed of 12 Mbps.
  • A suitable private workspace where calls cannot be overheard and background noise will not interfere with interviews.

Do NOT complete the application on your phone or a tablet. Our application form checks your technical hardware to make sure it is compatible with our software so use the laptop/PC you would use to do this work.

Where reasonable adjustments are required because of a disability or health condition, we will discuss these with you. You must have the right to work in the UK and must normally carry out the work from within the UK.
