Your new company
As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives. Hays is seeking to recruit a painter for HMP Holme House. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and can often lead to permanent opportunities.

Hours Per Week: 39 hours

Your new role

  • Carry out painting and decorating works throughout the prison, including internal areas, communal spaces and other designated areas.
  • Prepare surfaces prior to painting, including cleaning, sanding, filling and making good where required.
  • Apply paint and other finishes using brushes and rollers to achieve a professional standard.
  • Work alongside prisoners participating in the CRED programme, supporting them while completing painting work around the establishment.
  • Demonstrate good painting techniques and help prisoners develop practical, work-based skills while completing tasks.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, tidily and to the required standard.
  • Maintain tools, materials and equipment appropriately and keep work areas clean and organised.
  • Follow all site security, Health & Safety and prison procedures while working within the establishment.
  • Work professionally within a secure custodial environment and communicate effectively with prison and facilities-management staff.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Must be a fully qualified Painter.
  • Previous relevant work-related experience.
  • Good awareness and understanding of personal health and safety, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Comfortable working alongside prisoners.

Ideally, you will be qualified to NVQ level 3 in Painting and Decorating. However, we will consider applications if you have NVQ level 2.
In addition to this, it would be desirable if you are comfortable working alongside prisoners and have experience of sharing best practice with others to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.

You must be able to pass a full prison security clearance and enhanced DBS (if required). Hays and the MOJ are responsible for organising all security clearances and DBS.
You must hold a valid passport or Full Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence at your current address.
