Employment & Education Lawyer

Wembley (Hybrid Working) | £55.00 per hour Umbrella | Immediate Start | Ongoing Temporary Assignment

A London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Employment & Education Lawyer to join its Legal Services team on an ongoing temporary basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX professional with substantial experience in Employment Law and/or Education (SEN) matters within local government or the public sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist legal advice on employment and education matters.
• Manage a varied and complex caseload with minimal supervision.
• Conduct advocacy and represent the Council at hearings, tribunals and inquiries.
• Advise on Employment Tribunal claims, restructures, redundancies and TUPE matters.
• Support Education/SEN casework and related legal proceedings.
• Draft and review reports for members and senior officers.
• Handle complex litigation, judicial reviews and disputes.
• Instruct and liaise with Counsel where required.
• Deliver legal training and guidance to officers and members.
• Contribute to policy development and strategic legal projects.

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX.
• Significant post-qualification legal experience.
• Strong background in Employment Law, including Tribunal litigation, restructures, redundancies and TUPE.
• Experience handling Education/SEN matters.
• Excellent advocacy, drafting and communication skills.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and provide pragmatic legal advice.
• Previous local authority experience is highly desirable.
