Employment Lawyer

  • Job Type: Interim, full-time, up to 6 months
  • Location: Fully remote
  • Salary: Day rate DOE

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Employment Lawyer to join a busy legal team on an interim basis, supporting an existing employment law function. This Employment Lawyer position would suit someone around 1–2 years PQE, or a legal or HR professional with strong employment law experience, who can work independently on delegated matters. The Employment Lawyer will play a key role in managing tribunal matters, advising managers and People teams, and supporting the preparation of higher-risk cases.

Day-to-day of the role

  • Manage Employment Tribunal claims from ET1 through to final hearing preparation, including ET3s, grounds of resistance, disclosure, witness statements, bundles and hearing preparation
  • Handle a delegated caseload of lower and medium-risk employment disputes with minimal supervision
  • Provide clear, practical advice to People and Culture colleagues and managers on disciplinary, grievance, capability, sickness absence, discrimination and whistleblowing matters
  • Support more complex or high-risk claims through the preparation of chronologies, case summaries, witness packs, briefings and reports
  • Assist with ACAS Early Conciliation, mediation and settlement discussions
  • Liaise effectively with panel firms and counsel on active matters
  • Maintain accurate case, reserve and cost information and contribute to management reporting
  • Provide service cover when required, including triaging new matters, managing deadlines and escalating issues appropriately

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with around 1–2 years PQE, or a professional with strong employment law and HR experience
  • Hands-on experience managing Employment Tribunal claims through the full preparation process, short of advocacy
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law, including discrimination, whistleblowing, unfair dismissal and current legislative developments
  • Experience advising on a broad range of employee relations matters in a practical and commercially aware way
  • Ability to assess litigation risk, quantum and settlement options with sound judgement
  • Confident working independently and managing a varied caseload of delegated matters
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to maintain deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, external firms and counsel

Benefits

  • Fully remote working, with optional office access if convenient
  • Interim assignment offering broad exposure to employment law and HR legal matters
  • Opportunity to support a busy in-house legal service on meaningful casework
  • Target start date of 1 December or as soon as possible
