EOTAS Tutor - Herefordshire

Location: Herefordshire
Role: EOTAS Tutor
Phase: Secondary
Working Arrangement: In-person

About the Role

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, supportive and experienced EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised, one-to-one educational support to a young person in Herefordshire who is receiving Education Otherwise Than at School (EOTAS).

The successful candidate will have experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching methods, resources and session structure to meet individual learning needs, helping the young person build confidence, re-engage with education and make meaningful progress.

Experience supporting young people who experience anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial. The ideal tutor will be calm, flexible and resilient, with the ability to establish positive relationships, maintain appropriate boundaries and create a safe, supportive learning environment.

Sessions may take place in the young person's home or another suitable community setting, depending on their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

The role may involve:

  • Delivering tailored, one-to-one educational support as part of an EOTAS provision.

  • Supporting learning across relevant curriculum subjects, depending on the tutor's experience and the young person's needs.

  • Supporting secondary-level learning, including GCSE content and exam preparation where appropriate.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and developing activities to support academic progress.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session pace to accommodate individual learning styles, abilities and interests.

  • Breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps to encourage understanding and engagement.

  • Supporting a young person who may face barriers to mainstream education, including anxiety, low confidence, school avoidance or disengagement.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour, using appropriate positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques where required.

  • Building a trusting professional relationship while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.

  • Encouraging confidence, independence, resilience and positive learning habits.

  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to parents/carers and other relevant professionals.

  • Working collaboratively with those involved in the young person's education and support.

  • Maintaining appropriate records, confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support.

  • An understanding of EOTAS, alternative provision or other non-mainstream educational settings.

  • The ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.

  • Experience supporting young people who may demonstrate challenging behaviour or struggle to engage with education.

  • A calm, patient, empathetic and resilient approach.

  • Confidence building positive relationships and maintaining professional boundaries.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Reliability, flexibility and a genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
