This pivotal role involves supporting the Director of Testing Services in the development and execution of strategic initiatives to drive operational excellence and business growth. The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of leadership in regulated environments, exceptional commercial acumen, and a passion for continuous improvement. Responsibilities As the Technical Manager, you will: * Develop and implement long-term strategies to enhance the provision of testing services and meet business growth objectives. * Build and lead a high-performing team by recruiting, training, and mentoring top talent. * Regularly evaluate team performance, providing constructive feedback and guidance to ensure targets are met. * Foster a customer-centric culture, ensuring the team consistently exceeds client expectations. * Stay informed about emerging technologies, scientific equipment, and software to enhance efficiency and develop innovative services. * Contribute to commercial initiatives, including tender bids and strategic projects. * Drive the delivery of a robust project pipeline to bring new products and services to market ahead of competitors. * Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize costs while maintaining or improving quality standards. * Oversee line management responsibilities, including appraisals, performance management, and absence management. * Collaborate with the QHSE Manager to ensure compliance with ISO17025, ISO9001, and ISO14001 standards. * Identify and address significant environmental aspects and impacts within the department. * Report quality and environmental issues, as well as non-conformances, to the Director of Testing Services and QHSE Manager. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess: * A graduate-level qualification or higher in a relevant field. * 5–10 years of experience in a strategic leadership role, preferably in a high-throughput, ISO17025-accredited environment. * Demonstrated ability to lead large, diverse teams to achieve ambitious goals. * Extensive experience managing other managers and handling complex HR situations. * Strong commercial acumen with the ability to see the bigger picture and drive business growth. * Proven success in implementing innovative ideas to improve operational efficiency. * Project management expertise, including the ability to use project tools and monitor progress against plans. * Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and market developments. * Exceptional problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to ownership of issues. * Experience managing change effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. * A solid understanding of financial principles, including P&L management. * A commitment to acting as a role model and mentor within the organization.
