Optical Assistant – Domiciliary

Location: Manchester & surrounding areas
Salary: £12.71 per hour + bonus
Hours: Full Time – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Company Car Provided

Are you an experienced Optical Assistant looking for a change from the traditional high-street practice environment?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing domiciliary eyecare provider, delivering high-quality optical care to patients within care homes across Manchester and the surrounding areas.

Working alongside an Optometrist, you’ll be out on the road visiting patients who may not be able to access traditional high-street optical services. It’s a varied, hands-on role where patient care and communication are at the heart of what you do.

The Role

As a Domiciliary Optical Assistant, you’ll work closely with an Optometrist throughout the day, supporting them during clinics and helping to ensure patients receive an excellent standard of care.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting the Optometrist during domiciliary clinics

  • Helping patients choose suitable frames

  • Dispensing and providing advice to patients

  • Setting up and handling optical equipment

  • Completing paperwork and administration

  • Liaising with care home teams and patients

  • Travelling between clinics across Manchester and the surrounding areas

Salary & Bonus

The role offers a salary of £12.71 per hour, based on a 40-hour working week.

There is also an attractive bonus scheme based on clinic revenue. Once the clinic achieves over £1,300, you’ll receive 5% of the revenue above this figure.

For a successful team, this can typically add around £400–£500 per month to your earnings.

Company Car & Travel

A company car is provided, so you’ll need to hold a full UK driving licence and be confident driving as part of your working day.

As this is a domiciliary position, travel is an important part of the role. You’ll be covering Manchester and the surrounding areas and must be comfortable travelling up to approximately 1 hour 30 minutes when required.

This won’t mean spending that amount of time travelling every day. Clinics are planned geographically, and you’ll generally work your way through appointments within an area rather than travelling backwards and forwards throughout the day.

Working Hours

This is a Monday to Friday role, with no traditional weekend rota.

You’ll work 40 hours per week, with travel forming part of your working day.

For someone currently working weekends in a high-street optical practice, this could offer a much better work-life balance while allowing you to continue using your optical experience.

Optical Experience

Previous optical experience is required for this position.

You may currently be working as an:

  • Optical Assistant

  • Optical Advisor

  • Optical Adviser

  • Optical Dispenser

  • Senior Optical Assistant

  • Optical Supervisor

More importantly, you’ll need to be confident dealing with patients, comfortable working independently as part of a small mobile team and genuinely enjoy providing a high standard of customer care.

Why Domiciliary Optics?

If you enjoy optics but are ready for something different from working in the same practice every day, domiciliary can offer a much more varied working environment.

You’ll meet different patients, visit different locations and work closely with an Optometrist as a two-person team.

It’s particularly suited to someone who is caring, patient and enjoys building relationships with people, as many of the patients you’ll support are elderly or vulnerable and really value the service you provide.

Interested?

If you’re an experienced Optical Assistant based in or around Manchester, have a full UK driving licence and would like to find out more about moving into domiciliary optics, we’d love to hear from you.
