Material Planner
Location: Elland, West Yorkshire
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
Contract: Permanent, full time

About the role

Elevation Recruitment Group is working with a well-established manufacturing business in Elland to recruit a Material Planner. You will make sure the right materials, components and supplies are in the right place at the right time, so fabrication and assembly can run without interruption.

This is a hands-on role combining planning, purchasing and supplier management. You will work closely with production, warehouse and supply chain colleagues, and you will have real influence over inventory levels, cost and delivery performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse material requirements and raise replenishment orders, following them through from request to delivery
  • Use operational trends and sales insight to make informed buying decisions
  • Produce regular forecasts and inventory provisions that balance availability against stock investment
  • Raise purchase orders and chase suppliers, resolving delays, discrepancies and quality issues as they arise
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts and terms with third-party suppliers to improve cost and quality
  • Liaise with customs agents and couriers to keep import and export shipments compliant and on schedule
  • Set and maintain safety stock levels and reorder points based on consumption patterns
  • Act as a key user of SAP MM/PP, maintaining material, vendor and purchasing info record data and troubleshooting issues with POs, MRP runs and goods receipts
  • Track stock ageing, turnover and obsolescence, and put forward cost-saving ideas
  • Build and maintain supplier performance dashboards covering on-time delivery, quality rate and issue resolution
  • Work with finance on invoice matching and payment records, and keep supplier certifications up to date
  • Support the introduction of new materials alongside production, engineering and quality teams

About you

Essential

  • At least 2 years’ purchasing or planning experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Working knowledge of SAP or a comparable ERP/MRP system
  • A relevant degree or diploma (supply chain, business administration or similar), or equivalent industry experience
  • Confident with Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with a sharp eye for detail
  • Able to prioritise in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment
