City of York Trading Ltd (CYT) trading as WorkwithSchools and Work with York Limited are based in central York offices and both companies operate as recruiters.

CYT was formed in 2011 and trades as WorkwithSchools providing supply teaching and support staff to local schools, nurseries and colleges. Accredited to APSCo Compliance+ standard, holders of Cyber Essentials certification, City of York Trading Ltd (CYT) trading as WorkwithSchools is a supplier on Lot 1 of Government Commercial Agency’s (GCA) RM6376 Supply Teachers and Education Recruitment Framework.

Work with York Limited provide temporary, interim and casual staff to the City of York Council, assist with some permanent recruitment and manage the services of all second tier staff suppliers.

Both City of York Trading Ltd (CYT) trading as WorkwithSchools and Work with York Limited are accredited Living Wage Employers and both companies are wholly owned by the City of York Council.

The companies are now seeking two additional Non Executive Directors to join their Boards and are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience at a senior level in either business development, finance, organisational development or another relevant commercial discipline.

Board meetings are held for both companies once a month in York or virtually and there may be a small number of other ad-hoc meetings. It is envisaged that you will generally need to commit half a day monthly, however there may be an occasional need for additional days.

The roles are non-remunerated, though allowable expenses incurred in performing Non Executive Director duties will be reimbursed.

The ideal candidate

Will have gained considerable experience in a relevant senior management role and will be comfortable working at Board level.

Though previous board experience is not essential, you must be able to actively and positively contribute, influence and support the executive to achieve the objectives of both companies, and :-

• Local to the York area;
• Able to commit to at least a regular half a day per month;
• Well-networked and able to draw upon your connections where appropriate;
• Have a strong track record of success in a commercial business/enterprise;
• Comfortable with business plans, P&L’s and financial metrics;
• Credible and presentable;
• Have strong interpersonal skills;
• Senior management experience in Business Development, Finance, Organisational Development or other Relevant Commercial;
• Curious and inquisitive with the ability to challenge the status quo;
• Good developmental, coaching and mentoring skills;
• A thorough understanding of the dynamics and challenges associated with recruitment.
