Day-to-day of the role:

The Accommodation Team within Housing Solutions manages the Council's temporary accommodation properties and helps ensure statutory housing duties are met. As a Handyperson/Driver, you will work closely with Housing Solutions Officers to ensure properties are prepared quickly and efficiently, maximising the availability of accommodation and reducing reliance on costly bed and breakfast placements.

  • Changing locks where properties are unsecured or when occupancy rights have ended.
  • Providing access to contractors and other services when required.
  • Safely storing and disposing of abandoned possessions in line with Council procedures.
  • Working proactively with Housing Solutions Officers to minimise void turnaround times.
  • Managing and prioritising your own workload while responding to changing service demands.
  • Experience carrying out basic maintenance, repairs, decorating or property preparation work.
  • The ability to work on your own initiative and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong organisational skills and a flexible approach to work.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors and customers.
  • An understanding of the importance of maintaining high standards within residential accommodation.
  • A commitment to providing an excellent service to vulnerable residents.
