Financial Controller

Location: Derby, East Midlands
Salary: £42,000 - £44,000

I'm currently partnering with a highly successful and long-established engineering and manufacturing business to recruit an experienced Financial Controller. Operating within a specialist international market, this company has built a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and customer service, supplying products to customers across the UK and overseas.

Following continued growth and investment, they are seeking a commercially minded finance leader who can take ownership of the finance function, provide strategic insight to senior management, and support the business through its next phase of development.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Operations Director and working closely with the leadership team, the Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in driving financial performance, improving reporting accuracy, and supporting key business decisions.

This is a hands-on position that combines strategic financial leadership with day-to-day operational finance responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the finance function, ensuring robust financial controls and processes.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, board reports, and financial analysis.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Manage year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors and advisors.
• Provide commercial insight and financial support to operational and sales teams.
• Monitor KPI performance and identify opportunities for profitability improvement.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, VAT, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and improve financial systems, reporting, and processes.
• Manage and mentor finance team members.

About You

• Part Qualified Accountant/QBE.
• Previous experience in a Financial Controller or Finance Manager position.
• Strong management accounting, reporting, and financial planning expertise.
• Experience within manufacturing, engineering, distribution, or product-based environments would be highly advantageous.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Strong systems skills and a track record of process improvement.
• A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent communication abilities.
